Horticulture therapy conferences blooming this fall

September and October conferences are blooming innovative approaches to the growing field of horticultural therapy, which uses plant-based activities and gardening under the guidance of a registered horticultural therapist, for mental health, vocation, occupational, rehabilitative and substance abuse programs in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, correctional facilities and assisted and senior living centers, greenhouses, parks and arboreta.

Congressman Lance, legislators celebrate horticultural therapy on life of senior

Congressman-Lance-Aug2015Congressman Leonard Lance, in honor of Oldwick Senior resident, Lorraine Galbraith, age 89, wheelchair bound, socially isolated, with history of strokes, and diagnosed with dementia, flew the American Flag over the U.S. Capitol, and presented her with the flag at Melick’s Town Farm in Oldwick at a celebration of the benefits of 300 Horticultural Therapy sessions and the impact “HT” has on her life enhancement, and will to live.
